SAE International (SAE): is a professional organization for mobility engineering professionals in the aerospace, automotive, and commercial vehicle industries. The Society is a standards development organization for the engineering of powered vehicles of all kinds, including cars, trucks, boats, aircraft, and others. Membership is open to the public for those particularly interested in Human Factors and Ergonomic Standards.
SAE J1318: This SAE Recommended Practice provides test procedures, requirements, and guidelines for single-color Gaseous Discharge Warning Lamps.
Classes of Warning Lamps as defined in SAE J1318 Standard:
- Class 1 : Primary warning lamps for use on authorized emergency vehicles responding to emergency situations
- Class 2 : Primary warning lamps for use on authorized maintenance and service vehicles to warn of traffic hazards such as an accident, slow-moving service truck, etc.
- Class 3 : Primary warning lamps for use on vehicles that are authorized to display flashing warning lamps for identification only.
UL (Underwriters Laboratories Inc.): Underwriters Laboratories® Inc. (UL) is an independent product safety certification organization. Based in Northbrook, Illinois, UL develops standards and test procedures for products, materials, components, assemblies, tools and equipment, chiefly dealing with product safety. UL also evaluates and certifies the efficiency of a company’s business processes through its management system registration programs.
CSA (Canadian Standards Association) International: CSA International, a member of the CSA Group, is a provider of product testing and certification services for electrical, mechanical, plumbing, gas and a variety of other products. Recognized in the U.S., Canada and around the world, CSA’s marks appear on billions of products worldwide. CSA International certification marks indicate that a product, process or service has been tested to a Canadian or U.S. standard and it meets the requirements of an applicable CSA standard or another recognized document used as a basis for certification.
